An innovative idea we would like to try is to harness rain from the aluminum rooftops and use it to water wooden boxes with vegetables. These boxes will serve as a starter kit to grow subsistence vegetables. A small amount of rain water collected from run-off rain on rooftops will help grow a box full of sweet potatoes, yams, tomatoes, kale and lentils. We will provide these box kits to families who labor in the farm in exchange for their help laboring in the demonstration farm. This will be a low cost idea to help feed struggling families as most families have a slanted rooftop which can collect the water and this will be a more targeted use of collecting the rain water. The money will go towards the wood box, the piping to collect the rainwater and soil and seeds.
